A Call to Minister with Compassion
Ward members play a vital role.
I was thrilled with our latest pro-life talk in General Conference!
In his address, Cherishing Life, Elder Neil L. Andersen emphasizes the sacredness of life and the vital role Church members play in supporting those facing unanticipated pregnancies.
He recounts the story of a teenage girl who, upon discovering her pregnancy, felt overwhelmed. Despite pressure to consider abortion, she chose to keep her baby. With immense support from her family and ward, she found peace and joy in her decision.
“I have received so much love and support from our ward family. It has been overwhelming. [My] bishop and Young Women president have gone above and beyond to show their love and support.”
Elder Andersen reminds us that nurturing and protecting life is not a political stance but a divine mandate. He states, “Nurturing and protecting life that is yet unborn is not a political position. It is a moral law confirmed by the Lord through His prophets.”
As members of the Church, we are encouraged to:
Minister with Love: Reach out to young women in our congregations who may be facing unplanned pregnancies. Offer them the same overwhelming love and support that made a difference in the young woman's life Elder Andersen described.
Provide Spiritual Guidance: Encourage them to seek the Lord's guidance through prayer and scripture study. Remind them of the Savior's love and the healing power of His Atonement.
Offer Practical Support: Assist with temporal needs, such as childcare, transportation, or connecting them with resources. Your support can alleviate some of the burdens they may be carrying.
Foster a Welcoming Environment: Ensure that our wards are places where individuals feel safe, loved, and supported, regardless of their circumstances.Facebook+1Reddit+1
Elder Andersen's message is clear: as disciples of Jesus Christ, we are called to minister to the one, just as He did. By extending compassion and support to those facing unanticipated pregnancies, we uphold the sanctity of life and embody the Savior's love.
I hope we heed this call to action and are instruments in the Lord's hands, offering hope and support to those in need.
